About Us - Overview & History

The company is owned and operated by the Bovell family and began over eighty years ago as an agri-based enterprise primarily in the production of cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry on substantially large acreages for the domestic and export market.

Malabar Farms Food Service Ltd has been involved in the food service and retail trade for over twenty years servicing customers both in Trinidad and Tobago. With a total customer base in the vicinity of six hundred clients, our customers include all major hotels, restaurants, caterers, offshore drilling rigs, bakery’s and pastry shops, convenience stores and major supermarkets on both islands.

The company is an importer distributor and supplier of frozen meat, fish products, poultry, vegetables, dairy, dry goods and gourmet items in the domestic market. The food service component of the business makes up approximately seventy five percent of the business while the retail comprises the remaining twenty five percent.

The company carries a very expansive and diverse product range and we pride ourself on being a one stop shop for our food service clients. Currently we are the official local distributors for internationally recognized companies such as Hormel Foods, Jenny O Turkey Store, Omaha Steaks, Johnsonville Sausages, Evian Water, Elle and Vire Dairy Products, Sysco Foods, Island Oasis Cocktails, Cheney Brothers, Meow Mix Cat Food, Lawlers Cakes, Apple & Eve Juices, R.L Schreiber and Quirch Foods.

In the Food service trade some of our major accounts include: Hilton Trinidad, The Hyatt, Marriot’s, Carlton Savannah, Subway, Ruby Tuesday, TGIF, and Global Santa Fe. As well as popular local white table restaurants such as Solimar, Il Colosseo, Chaud and Joseph’s. Whilst in the retail trade Hilo Food Stores, Tru Valu, JTA, Naipauls, Penny Savers, Southern Food Basket, Persad’s Supermarkets and SuperPharm are among our major retail customers.

The management team comprises of persons with a wealth of experience, particularly in the food service industry with several members of staff having attended culinary schools. Our sales team is headed by Mr.Jean Paul Simonet who has had considerable experience in the food service industry having worked with premier upscale hotels in the United Kingdom as well as general manager and food and beverage manager of prominent hotels in Trinidad.
